Hi fellas
Send you greetings from France. I ain't heard about your new music but the clip on Youtube is awesome. I surely check your new stuff but I'd like to have some sound clips. You know I been listening to all sorts of band from the 70's but none could touch you back in the days when it came to mixing rock soul real blues and even Folk ! I tell you this : The tune "Folks from mother's mixer" got the meanest, the funkiest and the hardest riff I ever heard - not to talk about the vocal harmonies - and I could listen to that song all day long !
I've tried all that time to play it on the guitar but I can't find the right chords. Anyway... Keep growing !.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to express my thoughts on this site. I am an african american female songwriter who just so happens to be a songwriter and tune carrier but I am a disabled veteran with opinions and written facts. I'd like to go rock but I don't know where to begin to get my music out in an industry who is clearly not up on it. Rock has always been the soul of Africa and truth has always been a silent voice. I'd like to help get our voices out.

WOW!
I can't believe I found your email. Not a bad looking site either.
first: BLACK MERDA RULES!
I have been a fan for about the last 6-7 years when I stumbled across you guys first album and was blown away!
A true masterpiece!
I am sure that you get contacted all the time from your fans- so I'll keep it short and sweet.
That first album is one of my "desert island" records.
I also have a few of those fugi singles.
"somebody mailed me a gun in an envelope, told me I had the right to kill, yall, oh yeah!
but you took me to jail this mornin Mary, cause I couldn't afford to pay my bills"
awesome- and you guys playing on the track. the best.
It is funny that you guys get called "black rock" even though "rock" is just a child of R&B!
put simply whatever color BLACK MERDA ROCKS!
I am an avid music collector here in Atlanta and the great state of Georgia, and I want to know now that you guys are back together-
when are you gonna drop a little knowledge on the South!
It would be a real treat to see you guys live.
Well, I guess that I have talked your ear off enough, I just happened on the site and had to hit you guys up.
I am curious if you have any promo material from back in those days like gig posters or publicity photos.
I would be willing to break off a little dough for something like that.
Also- would you entertain the thought of signing my prized Black Merda album if it was sent to you.
hit me back and let me know!
until then keep keepin on, and don't "let reality, cause your fantasies, to die"
PEACE!

Hi guys,
Just came across your great website! Wow, was I amazed to a
site devoted to the legendary Black Merda! I'm a soul music collector
& fan from as far away as Oslo in Norway. Been collecting vintage soul
45s for many years. And in fact your old Chess 45 "Reality" is one of my
all time fave soul records. Just so damn raw & soulful. Just thought you'd
like to know that you have fans all around the world people. Thank you for
making all that great music!
Kind regards;

Look I know Im at least 30 years behind, but Your music speaks to my soul. Im a 23 year old guitar player from bham alabama and Ive been searching for the real guts of this music thang. Ive listened to Funkadelic from the maggot brain erra, and I thought that was as good as it got when it came to BLACK ROCK but today after hearing the few cuts that yall have posted on this myspace I see that I was sadly mistakin. I play with a few bands here but Im about to start workin on my own solo shit. Im now looking at your music as a blue print to what Im tryin to do kinda. is there anyway for me to get your music. Is it on Amazon.com? Ok Im not gonna rant and rave but thank you as late as this thank you may be, but thank you for making the music that you did. What words of wisdom would you guys have for a black musician trying to make it in a rock/funk based genre?
Peace and Blessings yall

Just want to leave a thought or two about the group. I am a 41 year old African American "serious" music collector that thought I had heard everything that "needs" to be heard. I started out by saving my school lunch money & allowances to buy records, 8-tracks & 45's. Over the years, Out of everything I lucked up on and found during my youth, adult crate digging years (before the cd's heyday), I had never heard of Black Merda. There were many "black" groups in the same vein such as Purple Image, Black Velvet, Demon Fuzz, early Bar-Kays and of course Funkadelic but when I heard Mer-Da I damn near flipped!
I have a 54 year old ex-hippie co-worker who is a white guy and we often loan each other cd's and turn each other on to lost stuff like this. Most of the time, his reaction to black groups that played what was called "black rock" is like "yea...it's ok but..." or "I listened but it's too this or too that". Well let me say that when I approached him with my Folks From Mothers Mixer CD, He said it was the best that I ever loaned him. Man, I wish I was old enough to have been around and able to experience and see you guys during your heyday! Trust me...There are people out here that scours the planet looking for groups like you. It's a highly valued addition to my collection and I hope to see that "psych/funk album around on Cd. Please don't limit pressings to vinyl only.

hey! good show in NYC Saturday, although the sound system was wack--didn't click in until the last song. Anyway, I'm listening to the album now.
Another story about your name: Around 1970, "Black Merta" was a stoner urban legend--if you had garbage reefer, you were supposed to moisten it and bury it, and then a purplish-black fungus called "Black Merta" would grow that would make it potent. (No, it didn't work.)

As a black rock bassist, I was amazed and proud to have stumbled upon you guys. So much of our black rock history has been lost to the b.s. of todays music. More importantly, our black youth haven't a clue about how our culture has influenced modern music. I applaud your return and hope to see you on tour!!

Hey, Bullmooose Music in Portland had your disc on display and were playing it in the store yesterday. I cued one of the dudes working there about it and he is now a big fan. There is a club here called Geno's (check myspace) that you could pack, especially if you contact Bullmoose Music, they are a big Maine-owned music store that has good quality and promotes the hell out of cool bands such as Black merda. There is a rabid fan base here just waiting for Black Merda, and I'm sure you guys could make enough money from the gig to make it worth your while, you'd sell shitloads more cds too, guaranteed. Please think it over, especially if you play Boston, cause you wouldn't be too far from us. Love and peace, Paddy, Portland, Maine

I am a huge fan of late sixties - early seventies funk/rock music like Parliament/Funkadelic , Sly and the Family Stone , Charles Wright , The Chambers Brothers and so on.......... what really hit me hard from that period was Muddy Waters' 'Electric Mud' which I have read somewhere that Black Merda had a major collaboration in. I have recently ordered your cd 'Mothers Mixer' and I really cant wait to listen to it; all the reviews I have read so far praise the album highly and one reviewer even mentioned that your style of music is the definition of "Black Metal" which is a term usually linked to heavy metal bands like Metallica and so on.......
So what I want to say is that I am highly anticipating the pleasure of owning your albums and grooving to your kick ass rock 'n' roll rythms without labelling your style and digging it with soul and passion..........
p.s. I am from Kuwait, so your fanbase has spread to the Middle East!!!!!
